Chapter Fifteen

Tuck knew he fucked up the moment Katie got out of bed and started putting her clothes on, but his damn phone had been vibrating for the last twenty minutes, and he knew one of the guys was going to be pounding on the door any second. He wanted nothing more than to just lay in that bed with her and spend the next few weeks showing her exactly how he felt, but he had to get back work. When she spouted off, telling him he had fucked her and not to make promises he couldn’t keep, he was blown away and pissed at the same time, but hearing her yell at Cathy, saying the things she did, his pissed off turned to fury.

This was on him, he knew it, but she was overacting and hadn’t even given him a chance to fucking explain. That shit was stopping now. As soon as she got in his office, Tuck shut the door, took her by the shoulders, pushed her up against it, pinning her there, so she couldn’t move, and had her full attention.

“First, if you want to do this with me, you’re going to have to trust me. That shit you just pulled isn’t going to happen. You get pissed at me, tell me, not the entire fucking club. This is who I am, Katie. You say you accept me, but the first chance you get to run, baby, you were out that door so fast. Maybe it’s you who needs to think about making promises you can’t keep.”

Katie opened and closed her mouth several times before she spoke, “I didn’t, I thought...”

“Yeah, you thought wrong. You know damn well shit is falling all over the place right now, and my damn phone had been going off since the first fucking orgasm I gave you. I put you before my duty, Katie. Do you get that?

“You have a decision to make. You told me you could handle this life that you were born into it, but what you just did proves that wasn’t true, now was it?” Tuck said as he stepped away from her, not able to look at her tear-stained face. Katie moved past him and sat down on the couch, crying into her hands. The sound gutted him, but he wasn’t wrong; if they couldn’t work this shit out, there wasn’t any point in going any further.

When she sobbed out, “It’s just that you always push me away, I thought...”

Tuck couldn’t take it anymore, this was on him because of all the years of denying what he knew was between them. Getting down on his knees in front of her, he moved her hands away from her face, coaxing her to look up at him.

“Kate, have I ever lied to you?”

Katie shook her head.

“I’m not going to start now, not when it’s this important. I’m not going to say I won’t fuck up because, babe, that shit is going to happen, over and over again. Hell, it took me all of five minutes to fuck up one of the best moments of my life.
